EXT A QUIET STREET EVENING

It is a quiet evening in a quiet neighborhood. There is a dog barking in the distance. No cars. It is a residential area. In one of the houses a smoke alarm goes off. A few seconds later the lights of the house turn on.

INT KITCHEN EVENING

The whole kitchen is covered with smoke while the smoke alarm goes off… A woman opens quickly the oven and tries desperately to blow all the smoke away…

WOMAN

(Scared)

No… no, no, no… no please… no…

Little by little the smoke disappear. The alarm sound ceases. The oven is open and the tray with the burned food is on the floor, ruined. The woman is also on the floor, on her knees waiting for what she knows is coming next.

MAN

(Hysterical)

YOU FUCKING USELESS BITCH!!!

The woman covers her head with her arms to protects herself, when the man comes to her shouting.

EXT HOUSE IN A QUIET STREET EVENING

The neighborhood is still quiet. The dog is still barking in the distance. A young couple walking by are holding hands. They are in love…

INT LIVING ROOM EVENING

With her bruised, bloody and shaking hand, the woman picks the phone up and dials. When she lifts the phone up to her ear we see how badly she was beaten. The eye brushed, the mouth with blood, the cut on her cheek… The only sound around is the shower running. Someone answers the phone call. The Woman finds it hard to articulate any words. She hangs up. The husband finishes his shower and as he comes through the living room he observes that she is not using the phone.

MAN
Are you calling today or what?

She jumps when the husband talks and drops the phone. The man looks at her and realizes how frightened she is.

MAN
Look, I ́m sorry, ok? It ́s just… You know me… Damm! Why you make me do this? Look, I love you, ok? See? I said it. I love you. Happy? I just said it!! Now, can you please call?

She breaths deeply and dials again. After a few seconds she manages to talk, but it is really hard, physically and emotionally.

WOMAN

(Shaking voice)

Hello? I… I… Can I…? I would like… to order a pizza? Please?

The woman can barely focus on the conversation.

WOMAN

(CONT’D)

Excuse me?

She feels dizzy…

WOMAN

(CONT’D)

Ah… yes. Please. Large…

Family… Large family pizza?

The Woman stops talking for a few seconds. She tries not to cry, not to break down more than she already is… She glances back at the husband just for a second, who is now sitting in the coach reading a paper…

WOMAN

(CONT’D)
Yes I… I did order pizza in here before.

She attempts to move the fingers of her left hand, but it is really painful…

WOMAN

(CONT’D)

Yes.

When she notices the blood in her hand she uses her dress to wipe it up…

WOMAN

(CONT’D)

Yes, please…

Drops of blood dripping to the floor, one by one…

WOMAN

(CONT’D)

Yes, with pepperoni please?

But she can´t find where the blood comes from…

WOMAN

(CONT’D)

Doble, double pepperoni.

Drop by drop the blood is reaching her feet.

WOMAN

(CONT’D)

Becca… Rebecca Fringe

She checks her legs…

WOMAN

(CONT’D)

165 Canoe Road. Sideville.

She checks her other hand…

WOMAN

(CONT’D)

Thank you…

Finally, she finds out that the blood is coming from a nasty cut on her cheek…

WOMAN

(CONT’D)
No, please hurry… My husband is very hungry.

When she hangs up the phone, she starts to cry…

INT KITCHEN EVENING

The woman enters the kitchen and starts to clean. On the floor the grease, burned meat and blood are mixed. She feels pain in every inch of her body. She senses every noise the husband makes in their home. Suddenly, someone knocks at the front door and that makes her jump, literally.

MAN

(v.o.)

Dinner is here!

INT LIVING ROOM EVENING

The man, still with the paper in his hand, opens the door and two police officers jump over him. The WOMAN, still shaking and scared sees, hiding behind the kitchen´s door, how her husband is trying to escape and how the police officers catches him and takes him away. We can see all this in stop motion while all we hear is a reordered phone call in voice over…
